Wildlife
Our practice provides care and treatment for all wildlife found in our region. We encourage people finding injured wildlife to bring them into the surgery for assessment and first aid. This is a community service the practice provides and does so at no charge. It is a legal requirement that wildlife be rehabilitated by registered wildlife carers as this gives the greatest chance of the animal being successfully released back into its normal habitat. This is the ultimate objective of all wildlife rehabilitation. Even members of the general public whom have good intentions of caring for injured wildlife should note it is illegal to do so and that the animal must be passed onto a registered carer who is qualified to meet their nutritional and physical needs. Unauthorised possession of Australian wildlife can incur a fine of up to $24,000.00. Wildlife rehabilitation shelters are licensed to the Department of Sustainability and Environment and are completely unfunded by the government. We accept donations on behalf of our local wildlife shelters and any funds received are evenly distributed amongst them.
